Batch Trying to Find a Local Dongle
Category: Licencing and dongles

Problem
I am receiving the message Trying to find local dongle... when trying to start a batch even though the dongle is connected properly and the licence is displayed in the GUI. Some other computers do not show this message for their dongles to start the calculations and run the same batch
Solution

The dongle search preference is a property of the batch job, not the current Bladed session.  It looks as if the batch was created when the option to use a local dongle only was set, which sets this as the option within each individual batch job.  To change this, please do the following:

1. Open Tools > Preferences and select the option Use network dongle.  This searches for a network dongle only at run-time, ignoring any local dongle.  Alternatively you could select Use local dongle if possible, which will connect to a local dongle if found, and then search for a network dongle if a local dongle is not found.

2. Open the Batch window and multi-select any jobs that are not running.

3. Click Edit > Re-create batch job(s).  The selected jobs will be rewritten with the new dongle search preference.

Generally we recommend using the dongle search option “Use local dongle if possible” for batch runs in order to maximise the chance of finding a licence when the run is in progress.
