How to import AQWA .LIS files with newer versions into Bladed

Problem

Bladed versions affected: all current 4.x versions that support floating

Bladed (prior to 4.15) supports the reading of *.lis files outputted by AQWA versions 13 to 16 inclusive. 

Is there a workaround to import .LIS files of the latest AQWA versions?


Solution

Note: Bladed 4.15 onward reads .lis file outputted by the latest versions of AQWA (version 13 to version 2023). The following solution is provided for earlier supported versions of Bladed (up to 4.14). 

With the latest versions, the output files have changed in format. Users need to manually edit the output .lis file of later versions to make it work with Bladed versions (up to 4.14). 

Steps:

(1) Change from “Aqwa-Line    - 2019 R2                64BIT VERSION 2019 R2” to “AQWA-LINE    - RELEASE Release 16.”
(2) Change from “STRUCTURE C.O.G.” to “C.O.G”
(3) Copy the below text between the different direction sectors for the excitation force data. The code is looking for: “FROUDE KRYLOV + DIFFRACTION FORCES-VARIATION WITH WAVE PERIOD/FREQUENCY” that needs to be present 6 lines from the previous row of data. The red highlighted text can be copied and inserted between the different direction sectors. Note that there are two empty lines that are required to make the row count correct
