4.8 spotlight: New aerodynamic
documentation
A
considerable amount of work has been undertaken and completed on the
new aerodynamics model for Bladed 4.8. Please review this
document which shows the
verification of the new model, as well as the quantification of
possible changes to the load and power performance predictions.
4.8 spotlight: Superelement user guide
Bladed
4.8 supports a superelement approach for offshore support structures,
allowing a reduced jacket model to be imported to Bladed from offshore
codes such as SESAM. This document details how to use the feature and presents initial
verification work.
European Bladed User Conference - link
to presentations
The third annual European
Bladed User Conference was held on 10 November in Hamburg, Germany.
Over 50 attendees represented 25 companies and we look forward to an
even bigger conference next year. It was great to meet you and we
look forward to meeting more of you at the next event.
This year’s conference showcased presentations, as well as
software and user experience workshops. Topics included: Multi-part
blade validation and loads study, blade stability tool, Bladed 5, new
aerodynamics verification, floating wind and dynamic mooring lines,
LiDAR simulation and hardware test. Three presentations were delivered
by guest speakers. If you would like to be considered for a
presentation at the next conference, please email Bladed Support.
All presentations from this conference can be obtained from the customer portal.
Highlight on Bladed software training:
Floating wind
This training course offers in-depth insight into floating wind turbine
modelling. It provides detailed guidance on implementing the more
advanced features available within Bladed which relate to floating
wind. The five day “standard” training programme can be
tailored to match an individual company’s requirements, if needed.
The agenda includes: hydrodynamic theory, floating wind technology,
modelling sea states and wave structures, control system considerations
and adaptations, floating load calculations, mooring lines, platform
verification/validation, certification standards, and more.
DNV
GL invests 5% of its annual turnover into research and innovation
projects. DNV GL has collaborated with many customers on Joint Industry
Projects (JIPs) in 2016 and the following utilise Bladed:
1. Validation of
turbulence models
The
aim of this JIP is to gain a deeper understanding of turbulence models
and their impact on wind turbine loading; allowing development of
recommendations to guide the industry through load validation and site
assessment. The JIP is in progress and comprises Siemens, Statoil,
Suzlon, DONG, GE, TechnoCentre Éolien, NREL, Gamesa, DTU Wind, Christian
Michelsen Research AS and DNV GL.
2. Coupled analysis for
floating wind turbines
This
project is the first of its kind, bringing together multiple
stakeholders from the wind, oil & gas and maritime industries,
making it the most interdisciplinary project focused on the technical
advancement of floating offshore wind projects. Despite strong progress
on the development of floating offshore wind turbines, the wind
industry is still missing a widely recognised and unified approach for
the practical methods to build and validate numerical models, in
accordance with the requirements in the standards. This JIP aims to mutually
develop a standard in conjunction with thirteen other partners.
In DNV GL we unite the strengths of DNV, KEMA, Garrad
Hassan, and GL Renewables Certification. DNV GL's 2,500 energy experts
support customers around the globe in delivering a safe, reliable,
efficient, and sustainable energy supply. We deliver world-renowned
testing, certification and advisory services to the energy value chain
including renewables and energy efficiency. Our expertise spans onshore
and offshore wind power, solar, conventional generation, transmission
and distribution, smart grids, and sustainable energy use, as well as
energy markets and regulations. Our testing, certification and advisory
services are delivered independent from each other. Learn more at www.dnvgl.com/energy.
